ROWE RACING looking forward to first laps on the Nordschleife with the new BMW M4 GT3
Starting second NLS race with two new cars / Six BMW M works drivers eager to clock up kilometres and experience for the ADAC 24h race
St. Ingbert, 5th April 2022
– Six days after the maiden race with the BMW M4 GT3 at Imola, ROWE RACING will compete in the BMW M6 GT3’s successful successor on their ‘doorstep’ for the first time this Saturday (9th April). In the second round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), the 46th NIMEX DMV 4‑hour race, the St. Ingbert team will take to the Nürburgring‑Nordschleife with two cars, thereby marking the start of preparations for the 50th edition of the ADAC 24‑hour race (28th/29th May).
Six of the eight BMW M works drivers in total scheduled to contest the ADAC 24‑hour race will be in action on Saturday and are eager to clock up as many kilometres and as much experience as possible with the new BMW M4 GT3 on the most demanding racetrack in the world. Like the actual ‘Eifel marathon’, the NLS races are held on the 25.378‑kilometre combination of the legendary Nordschleife and the Grand Prix track.
The #98 BMW M4 GT3 will be driven by two‑time DTM champion Marco Wittmann of Germany and South Africa’s Sheldon van der Linde, who finished in second place together last year. They will be joined by Dutchman Nick Catsburg, who has made an internal transfer from #99 to #98. The sister #99 car driving will be shared by 2020 winner Nick Yelloly and team newbie Augusto Farfus of Brazil, who raced together in the GT World Challenge Europe at Imola on Sunday, as well as with ROWE RACING veteran Philipp Eng of Austria.
ROWE RACING is scheduled to take to the Nordschleife for their first time in the new season in a 90‑minute qualifying session between 8:30 and 10:00 on Saturday. The four‑hour race gets underway at the traditional NLS starting time of 12:00.
Hans-Peter Naundorf, Team Principal ROWE RACING:
“At our first race with the BMW M4 GT3 at Imola last weekend we were able to gain some insight into the new car as a team. The mechanics now have a better understanding of the car and know what they need to watch out for. However, this is only of slight advantage for our first laps with the BMW M4 GT3 on the Nordschleife because the set‑up is very different there; the car is higher, there are different requirements for aerodynamics and tuning, and we use a different brand of tyres. We can use BMW M Motorsport’s experiences from the initial test races of the BMW M4 GT3 at the Nordschleife last year and from other teams in NLS1 that are kindly sharing with us. We’re looking forward to the first race kilometres with the BMW M4 GT3 at the ‘Green Hell’ because coming to our ‘doorstep’ for the first time with a new car is really special. It’s also great fun to be able to work with such first‑class drivers. Our goal is for them and the team to clock up as many kilometres and as much experience as possible with the new cars.”
